Sometimes you’ll have this moment of nostalgia where you remember one of your favorite videos you would watch as a youngster. For the Shake family, we were all about Disney animated movies, but that also dribbled down to their shorter cartoons. A perennial favorite in our house was Mickey and the Beanstalk. And thanks to technology today, you can find just about anything on YouTube. This thirty-minute cartoon is no exception, and you can watch it after the jump.
I can’t even begin to describe how much fun watching this was as a young child. It was quite the LSD-trip and delight to see Goofy trod upon a block of Jello as if it were a bounce house. As a little kid, I wanted to be able to do something like that so badly. Also, the portion that starts at 24:40 on this video would have my brothers and me in tears, and I still laugh hysterically at it. I don’t know what it is, other than perhaps the rhythm of the events, the cadence of Donald’s demand that Mickey “let him have it,” and the ensuing bludgeon to the face—all of it combined is perfect comic timing. So, if you’re feeling nostalgic today, or if you want to see a fantastic cartoon that you’ve never laid eyes on, enjoy Mickey and the Beanstalk.
